ABOUT THE ARTIST - Richard Hescox - Equine Art

Ever since grade school, when the other students would request drawings created by him, Richard's talent in equine art and painting was recognized. His various teachers would encourage him to pursue his interest in equine art, and when he reached High School and could take dedicated art classes, he knew that he would make his career in that field.

As a teenager he won his first "Best of Show" and "Purchase Prize" award. He also was awarded a scholarship to the "Art Center College of Design" and studied under famed western artist Donald "Putt" Putman, graduating with "Honors" three years later. He began a very successful career working in many different areas including the Hollywood motion picture industry. His work has been published throughout the world and has been displayed at the "Delaware Art Museum", the "Canton Museum of Art", the "Society of Illustrators" in New York and at the "University of Maryland Art Gallery".

A few years ago Richard moved with his family to Reno, Nevada to concentrate on his fine art oil paintings, creating images that spoke directly to his soul. He purchased a home with land enough for his wife to bring her warmblood home to live as part of the family. With such a graceful creature as a convenient model, Richards's love affair with horses flowered. Inspired by the beauty and power of these wonderful creatures he began doing sketches & paintings of the local equine community.

His ability to capture the essence of the horse through equine art, as well as the details of their individual personalities led to immediate interest in his equine artwork by the local horse owners. His sense of equine aesthetics and ability to compose a painting which incorporates the wonderfully rich landscapes of the local settings make his paintings much sought after by collectors and equine horse lovers. He has combined this new direction with the equine portrait work that he has been doing since his years spent creating images of motion picture stars in Hollywood. Richard works in oils and paints all disciplines and all breeds as well as Plein Air landscapes and portraits of humans and animals, as well as strictly equine art and paintings..
